This play is ahistorical, built on improvisation, a fantasia on the theme of Andy Warhol, his Silver Factory, and the people who moved through it and co-created its myth. This concerns both the events taking place and the figures on stage, who are variations on the themes of real people, the legendary Factory regulars. The point of departure was not just the artist’s biography, but also the culture of the 1960s, which is symbolized by Warhol, and which – in Krystian Lupa’s opinion – is echoed in contemporary culture. The conversations and creative exploration of the group centered on the improvisational condition in man, and its natural sources, which Warhol used in his experimental films. A second important process in working on Factory 2 was to ‘create the film that Andy Warhol never made,’ as a metaphor for a certain process set in motion by Lupa and his actors, who were constantly accompanied by the rolling camera.
