Romany Fairy Tales - children's workshops

11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., 2:00-4:30 p.m.
workshop leader: Krystyna Markowska

During these two-day meetings, the children will have the chance to learn about Romany history and culture, listen to folk tales, find out what traditional costumes looked like, dance together to Romany music and make their own traditional toys from kerchiefs. This will allow the young participants to delve into this culture, which in spite of its social marginalization has been an equally vital and valuable ingredient in shaping the melting-pot of Łódź.

Krystyna Markowska – vocalist in a traditional Roma music group, Chairwoman of the Information and Counseling Center Association for Romani People in Poland. She has lived in Łódź since 1980, where she came in contact with professional Romani dancers and singers. From 1999-2001 she cooperated with the Bałucki Cultural Center in Łódź as a singing instructor, running courses for children in traditional Romani music. She is co-founder and member of Perła i Bracia, which performs Romani vocal-instrumental music.
